Technically "crankshaft whip" — the biggest reason you don't see straight-8 engines anymore. You just can't engineer enough strength into a really long shaft to sustain high speeds/forces. That's what she said, etc.

the longer a crankshaft is, the more it twists (torsion.) crankshaft torsion causes unpredictable timing variations and more chances of a torsional fracture.

it’s a Detroit Diesel 24V71. I think the 12V71 was the biggest one of the series ever used in trucks, the 24 was meant more for marine and stationary applications like generators. although you do have some mad scientists like this guy:
